Questions students ask

Should I take PTE Core or PTE Academic for Express Entry?

IRCC’s Express Entry page says you must take the PTE Core option.

Can I use the Academic summary word limit for Core?

No. Core asks for 25–50 words; Academic has different instructions and requires one sentence.

Does PTE Core have an essay?

No. Core uses Write Email; Write Essay is an Academic task.

Can an Academic practice score become my Core score?

No. Practice estimates are not official results, and test-level scoring differs. Use the intended test mode and required exam.

Can I use PTE Academic practice materials for PTE Core?

Shared task types can help you practise the response format, but counts, skill contributions and scoring can differ. They do not replace Core preparation: Core-specific tasks need their own prompts and instructions, and Pearson recommends Core materials for everyday English contexts.
