Early Lease Break
The situation
You have four months left on your twelve-month lease, but you have been accepted into a clinical placement in another state starting next month. You need to move out early. Speak to your landlord: explain your situation, ask what the costs of ending the lease early would be, and suggest finding a replacement tenant yourself.
Model answer
Hello, thanks for taking my call. I'm ringing about the flat, and I'm afraid I have some awkward news. I've been accepted into a clinical placement interstate, which starts next month, so I'll need to move out four months before the lease ends. I'm sorry for the short notice, as I only found out this week. Could you let me know what the costs would be for breaking the lease early? To keep things fair for you, I'd be happy to advertise the room and find a replacement tenant myself. I'd appreciate your advice.
