Long-Staying Guest

The situation

Your flatmate's cousin arrived from overseas two weeks ago and is still sleeping on the lounge sofa. He uses the bathroom early every morning, and the kitchen is always crowded, which makes it hard for you to study at home. Nobody discussed this arrangement with you. Speak to your flatmate: explain how you feel and suggest a fair solution.

Model answer

Hey, have you got a minute? I wanted to talk about your cousin staying with us. I'm happy to help him out, honestly, but it's been two weeks now and it's starting to affect me. The bathroom's busy when I need to leave for my early classes, and I can't really study at home with the lounge occupied. I just wish we'd talked about it before he moved in. Could we agree on an end date, maybe another week, and perhaps he could chip in for bills while he's here? What do you think?
