So why the concern? It's partly 1 radioactivity is invisible. If you receive a large dose, or if you 2 radioactive heavy metals, it is certainly toxic, and we tend to 3 it with cancer, a great fear in modern 4. Nuclear waste is also highly concentrated. While this is seen as a "problem" it can be an advantage - it is very localized and its radioactive nature, means we can detect easily, the movement of tiny amounts of material.
