How it is scored
- Partial credit applies: a partly correct response still scores.
- Traits are scored by AI; a human expert also reviews Content before the score is final.
- If you stay silent for more than 3 seconds, the recording stops.
- You can record your response only once.

A structure for Describe Image
A structure helps you keep talking for the full time. The content still has to come from the image in front of you: a memorised description that ignores the image loses content marks.
| Step | What to say | Example sentence (imaginary bar chart) |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Topic | What the image shows | The bar chart compares how many hours a week students in four year groups spend on homework. |
| 2. Main feature | The highest, lowest or biggest part | Year 12 students study the most, at about fifteen hours a week. |
| 3. Detail or comparison | One or two more figures or trends | Year 9 is lowest, at around six hours, and the time rises with each year. |
| 4. Conclusion | What the pattern suggests | Overall, homework increases steadily as students approach their final exams. |

Questions students ask
How long do I have for PTE Describe Image?
25 seconds to study the image, then 40 seconds to speak (Pearson's published format).
Is there a Describe Image template?
A simple structure helps: topic, main feature, details, conclusion. Fill it with what the image actually shows; a memorised text that does not describe the image loses content marks.
How is Describe Image scored?
On content, pronunciation and fluency. RealPTE practice uses an AI language model for content and your timing for fluency; it is an estimate, not a Pearson score.
