How it is scored
- Partial credit applies: a partly correct response still scores.

Worked example: three paragraphs in order
Look for the sentence that can stand alone, then follow the links between sentences: pronouns, time words and contrast words.
Shuffled
A. However, the scheme was expensive to run.
B. In 2019 the council started a free bus service.
C. It was therefore replaced by cheaper student passes.
Correct order
B → A → C
Why
B introduces the topic with a date and needs nothing before it. A’s “However” and “the scheme” refer back to B’s bus service. C’s “therefore” and “It” follow from A’s cost problem. Pearson counts each correct adjacent pair, so B–A and A–C would earn two points.
