Late Night Kitchen

The situation

Your flatmate has started inviting friends over on weeknights, and they often stay talking loudly in the kitchen until after midnight. You have early classes and have been losing sleep. You get on well with your flatmate and do not want to cause tension. Speak to your flatmate: explain the problem and suggest a compromise.

Model answer

Hey, have you got a sec? I wanted to mention something. I've noticed your friends have been coming over quite a bit on weeknights lately, and sometimes the chatting in the kitchen goes past midnight. The thing is, I've got eight o'clock classes most days, and I've been struggling to get enough sleep. Could we maybe agree that on weeknights things wind down by about ten thirty, and then on Fridays and Saturdays it's totally fine to go late? I'm happy to work around whatever suits you. Thanks for hearing me out.
