Daytime Dog Barking

The situation

You study from home most weekdays. Your next-door neighbour recently got a dog that barks for hours while they are at work, making it hard to concentrate, especially during online classes. You get along well with the neighbour and do not want to involve the council. Speak to your neighbour: describe the problem politely and suggest a possible solution.

Model answer

Hi, how are you going? I hope you don't mind me mentioning this. I've noticed your new dog gets upset during the day while you're at work, and the barking goes on for a few hours. I study from home, and it's been tough to follow my online classes. I know it's not your fault, he's probably just lonely. Would you be open to trying something like a dog walker at lunchtime, or leaving a radio on for him? I'm happy to check on him sometimes if that helps. Thanks for hearing me out.
