Early Finish Negotiation
The situation
You work casual shifts at a warehouse and have just been offered a full-time graduate position that starts in ten days. Your contract asks for two weeks' notice, and the warehouse is busy at the moment. Speak to your supervisor: explain the situation, apologise for the short notice and negotiate an earlier finishing date.
Model answer
Hi, could I have a quick word before the shift starts? I've got some good news, but it also puts me in an awkward position. I've just been offered a full-time graduate role, and they want me to start in ten days. I know my contract asks for two weeks' notice, and I'm sorry for the short timing, especially with how busy it is right now. Would it be possible to finish a few days early? I'm happy to work extra hours this week and help train whoever covers my shifts. Thanks for understanding.
