How to choose a PTE tutor or coaching institute

To choose a PTE tutor or coaching institute, find a few in your city or online, then ask each the six questions in the table: a diagnostic, feedback on your recorded answers, mock tests in Pearson's format, class size, a clear price and evidence. RealPTE's teacher directory lists teachers by city; RealPTE does not rate them.

Six checks before you choose a PTE tutor or institute

Questions to ask any tutor or coaching institute, online or in your city. A checklist we suggest, not a Pearson rule.

Check	Ask	Why it matters
A diagnostic first	Will you test my four skills before the first class?	Shows what you need, so you do not pay for what you can already do
Feedback on my answers	Who listens to my recorded speaking and reads my writing, and how often?	Speaking and writing are where a teacher adds most
Mock tests	Are mock tests in Pearson's current format, with a report per skill?	The format changed for tests from 7 August 2025 (22 task types)
Class size and time	How many students per class, and how much time is mine?	Large groups leave little time for your answers
Clear price	What is the total price, and what happens if I need more time?	Compare like with like
Evidence	Can I see how students' practice scores changed over the course?	Ask for numbers, not only testimonials
