Before you rely on it
A concordance shows how scores on two tests compare. It is approximate, and it does not tell you which tests a university or visa program accepts or what score it asks for: those are set by each institution and government, so check the official requirement for your course or visa.
Pearson notes that this table replaces its earlier IELTS concordance and reflects the updated PTE Academic test; the skill columns are new in this study.

Questions students ask
Is PTE 65 always IELTS 7 in every skill?
No. Pearson's table gives separate ranges for the overall score and for each skill, so read the row and column you need, with the July 2025 source above.
Can I use the IELTS conversion as a visa threshold?
No. A concordance compares scores; it does not set visa eligibility. Australian visas use their own PTE minimums by test date: check Home Affairs.
Is PTE or IELTS easier?
Neither is easier for everyone. The tests differ in format (PTE is computer-based with automated scoring), so the better choice depends on you and on which test your institution or visa accepts.
How do I convert a PTE score to IELTS, and what PTE score do I need for Australian PR?
Use Pearson's July 2025 concordance: PTE 63–70 overall lines up with IELTS 7.0, for example. For Australian PR the visa rules use PTE minimums in each skill: Proficient English (10 points) needs 58 listening, 59 reading, 69 writing and 76 speaking for tests from 7 August 2025.
