The point, where the earthquake fault originates, is called the epicenter or the focus and the point directly below this, on the ground, is called the hypocenter . Depth of the hypocenter is known as the focal depth. Hypocenter usually lies deep down on the fault. The intensity of an earthquake is the most at the epicenter. If an earthquake could be accurately predicted, one could make some preparation to escape any loss caused by this terrifying event . However, prediction with a measure of certainty is not all that easy.
