PTE essay template and checker
Use a flexible structure for PTE Write Essay (200–300 words, 20 minutes), fill it with your own argument, then check your essay. The worked example below shows the question, a complete essay and its saved rubric points.
How this task is scored
Write a clear position, develop your argument with relevant examples, and check your language.
Target: 200–300 words. The scoring traits and maximum raw points used by this checker are:
- Content (0–6)
- Form (0–2)
- Development, structure and coherence (0–6)
- Grammar (0–2)
- General linguistic range (0–6)
- Vocabulary (0–2)
- Spelling (0–2)
Content checks whether you answer the task and preserve the important ideas. Form checks sentence and length requirements; grammar and vocabulary check the language you use. The essay also receives separate marks for argument development, linguistic range and spelling.
RealPTE applies these descriptors with its practice scoring system. A form or content score of zero stops scoring on the other traits. The displayed 10–90 estimate is a linear rescaling of rubric points, not Pearson’s official score calculation.

Common ways to lose marks
Generic memorised paragraphs do not develop an argument. Answer every part of the question and connect each example to your position.
Off-topic writing, missing main ideas, inaccurate details and grammar that changes the meaning can reduce your marks. Review the feedback, revise once, then try a different question.
A template for organising ideas
Position → one relevant reason with an example → a contrasting reason or limitation → conclusion that answers the question. Use the structure to develop your own argument, not to paste a memorised paragraph.
A structure is a planning aid, not a guarantee of a score.

Question #071001: Travel to study
Travelling to study is over-rated. We have brilliant scholars who studied locally. Is travel really necessary for tertiary studies?
Our example answer
Travelling abroad is often presented as an essential part of university education. However, excellent scholars have also developed their knowledge without leaving their home countries. I believe that overseas study can be valuable, but it is not necessary for every student to receive a strong tertiary education. One advantage of studying abroad is exposure to different ways of thinking. Students may encounter research facilities, teaching methods or specialist courses that are unavailable locally. Living in another culture can also encourage independence. For example, a student working on an international research project may learn to explain ideas to colleagues with very different backgrounds. These experiences can support both academic and personal development. Nevertheless, travelling does not automatically improve learning. A student still needs effective teaching, reliable resources and the motivation to study. Many local universities provide these conditions, while international journals and online seminars allow students to engage with overseas research. Remaining at home can also reduce financial pressure and help students maintain important support networks. For a student with limited funds, choosing a suitable local course may therefore be more useful than paying to travel simply for the experience. In conclusion, travel can enrich higher education when it gives a student access to relevant opportunities. It should be regarded as one possible route rather than a requirement for academic success. The quality of the course and the student's engagement matter more than the distance between the university and home.

Revised answer (not scored)
Travelling abroad is often presented as an essential part of university education. However, excellent scholars have also developed their knowledge without leaving their home countries. I believe that overseas study can be valuable, but it is not necessary for every student to receive a strong tertiary education. One advantage of studying abroad is exposure to different ways of thinking. Students may encounter research facilities, teaching methods or specialist courses that are unavailable locally. Living in another culture can also encourage independence. For example, a student working on an international research project may learn to explain ideas to colleagues with very different backgrounds. By requiring students to test subject knowledge in unfamiliar settings and explain it to new collaborators, these experiences can connect academic learning with practical independence. What changed, and what is still unknown
The added sentence explains how the example supports the argument, targeting development and coherence. The saved development mark is 5 / 6. There is no saved revised score, so no increase is claimed.
Next practice: revise the lowest-scoring trait, then try the same question again. If all traits have full marks, practise a new question under exam timing.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a template for PTE Write Essay?
Use a structure to organise your own argument: position, reasons with examples, a limitation, conclusion. A memorised paragraph that does not answer the question loses content and development marks.
Is this PTE checker free?
Yes. No account is needed for up to 3 checks per network address per UTC clock hour and 10 per UTC day across these three tools. A shared site cap may pause anonymous checks. Submitted checks, including failed scoring attempts, can use a slot. A free account gives 25 AI scores per day and saves your practice history.
Is this a Pearson score?
No. This is a practice estimate from RealPTE using Pearson’s published trait descriptions. It is not Pearson’s scoring engine, an official result or a guaranteed exam score.
Can I paste my own question?
Yes. Paste the full essay question or source passage. For Summarize Spoken Text, paste the complete lecture transcript, not just its title or your notes. This tool checks written summaries; it does not score your spoken voice.
Will my answer be saved?
Anonymous answers are sent for AI assessment but are not added to practice history. Only hashed network identifiers and quota counts are retained for limiting use. See our Privacy Policy. Create a free account and use the practice screen to save future attempts.
Why did I get no score?
If scoring is temporarily unavailable, we show an error instead of inventing a score. A valid answer that fails the scorer’s form or content rules can receive zero rubric points; the display scale starts at 10.
